Location - a quiet Maya village 12 km from Izamal and 30 min from Merida’s Periferico.  1.5 acres of fruit trees of all kinds, with irrigation from your private well and windmill.  Both houses are totally remodeled with taste and style, main house with two huge bedrooms each with private bath, and the one room guest house with seperate terrace, kitchen and bath.  Approx. 3400 sq feet total construction and totally walled for privacy.

The house is airy and cool with traditional high ceilings and old wood doors, tile floors and shutters. A long screened terrace runs the length of the rear of the main house.  Many custom -built closets of local cedar for ample storage, one year old mini-split a/c in bedrooms and guesthouse.  The pool is filled with fresh water from the well and not chlorinated, although you could choose to maintain it with chemicals if you prefer.

The village of Tepakan has a population of 2000 indigenous Maya, courteous gently people who will make you part of their community; several other ex-pats have made this village their home-away-from-home and have been welcomed by the locals.  I have lived here myself for four years - a single woman - and have never felt anything other than entirely safe.  There is no violence and the pace of life is slow, although I have to commute almost daily to Merida for work.  This is a great antidote to the hustle and bustle - consider it as an alternative to the city!
